Updates
1. The reclists should now be arranged without articles like "A, An, and The" at the beginning, since that's what y'all voted for earlier. Please let me know in the comments to this post if I missed one. :)

2. Now that the Yuletide reveals have been up for a while the last batch of recs have been tagged with the rightful authors, and have been merged with the rest of the notables. :)

3. Moved These Strange Steps by [archiveofourown.org profile] thememoriesfire (Glee, Quinn/Rachel, stripper!quinn, warning:BDSM) from WIP to Notables page, since it's now finished. Unfortunately, the other WIP that involved a genderswap by TMF seems to have been put on the backburner (aka, discontinued) due to a writer's block.

For those who do not have pinboard, this is what's available if you search for femslash, femmeslash, and f/f. [personal profile] murklins has posted several userscripts (like this one) that has drastically improved the user experience for the site, so if you want to see what people've done to make pinboard shinier, stay tuned to [community profile] pinboard.

I should also give notice that as part of my pinboard updates I've also been changing the URLs for some LJ accounts on my notables list to alternatives if there are some to be found (eg: AO3, DW, personal website). LJ has been a little unstable and that Lancome ad was driving me nuts.

...back at the beginning of July. I know that this recs update is a little overdue (I think I said sometime end of July, beginning of August). I also intended to add recommendation commentary to every single fic I've posted below, but if I did that, I think I'd delay posting this for another week or two (I hope to add that eventually). I forgot I had a couple of bookmarks in my ipad too, so these recs go back to April. :) Hope you enjoy!

(BTW, authors are still posting fics for [community profile] femslash11. You can find the masterlist of fics (by recipient) on this LJ post.)

As some of you may have noticed, I have started using an OpenID account for LJ and IJ commenting. I wasn't sure what the difference between OpenID and a normal user account was until I spotted a very user-friendly guide (Using an Open ID account at Livejournal by [personal profile] facetofcathy) and decided to take the plunge--I saw some merit in the 'it's not very friendly for users to see a blank journal' rationale. Since I'm not using the journaling services on those sites I might as well hand over the journaling resources to more active users. :)

New Twitter Research: Men Follow Men and Nobody Tweets (kudos to [personal profile] lian)
Based on a survey of 300,000+ users: "Although men and women follow a similar number of Twitter users, men have 15% more followers than women. Men also have more reciprocated relationships, in which two users follow each other. This 'follower split' suggests that women are driven less by followers than men, or have more stringent thresholds for reciprocating relationships."

BBC: Bend It Like Beckham was the "1st ever Western-made film to air on TV" in North Korea. To celebrate the occasion (any mention of subtext probably being censored), here's some femslash from that genre (AO3, femslash_today tags), because there can never be enough about girls playing football. I still think that a Bend It Like Beckham/10 Things I Hate About You/She's The Man cross-over fic would be epic.

[livejournal.com profile] miggy: Most Talented (Glee, Rachel/Kurt friendship) - the senior year of the "Mostverse" series is well on its way to being another epic piece of work. Senior year has Rachel, Kurt, and the reader dangling on the edge of a precipice--will they make it, or won't they? Rachel and Kurt have both worked really hard to get where they are, but Rachel and Kurt are just a couple of no-name talents among many. Kurt's hit and misses on the networking scene has him wondering whether it's all worth it, while Rachel is still in the dark about how the game is played in this town--she still thinks that she can still make it on talent alone. This story really parallels that essential heartbreaking dilemma depicted in the Devil Wears Prada-verse, and the reader is left hoping that after everything, their friendship might still survive it all. If you don't mind reading WIPs, it's currently being posted in segments on a daily basis while the author works on the backend. It's now complete!

Mirrors Reflecting Mirrors by heinrichfrei (Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame, Wu Zetian/Shangguan Jing'er)
“I only need three things to subordinate it: an iron whip, an iron hammer, and a sharp dagger. I will whip it with the iron whip. If it does not submit, I will hammer its head with the iron hammer. If it still does not submit, I will cut its throat with the dagger.” *flails* Detective Dee femslash! Told through vignettes, this narrative explores the backstories of both Wu Zetian and Shangguan Jing'er's characters. I appreciated the canon inclusion of Wu Zetian executing Shangguan Jinger's family and Wu Zetian's calculated rise to power. However, I wonder if this could have been made deeper. If you read behind the lines, Shangguan Jing'er was originally brought into Wu Zetian's fold in order to hold her hostage, so that Jing'er's family's allies would not retaliate against Wu Zetian as a surety. Keeping your enemies close, so to speak. So how did their relationship dynamic change, from a conqueror sparing the life of a subject? Did Shangguan Jing'er suffer from stockholm syndrome? I would have appreciated a much more in-depth look at that shift.
