On fanfic.me:
[personal profile] watersword: in which I am a Plucky Girl Detective
[personal profile] unjapanologist: [rant] Taking a short break from laughing at Fanfic.me

TL;DR version of above articles - the owner of fanfic.me (which is fanlib:redux--read: commercially owned, for-profit) happens to own a lot of lesbian fanfic type domains, including l-word.com. fanfic.me will also be featured in New York Web 2.0 Expo‘s Startup Showcase on October 12, 2011 (not quite sure what that implies but perhaps it's seeking venture capital). One of the big differences so far between fanlib and fanfic.me is probably how the owner is actually not as "outsider" as one might assume; she might be linked to the old kim/kerry ER fandom (according to [livejournal.com profile] frogspace's sleuthing).

Comments: I actually have no further comments to add on fanfic as a commodity; most of the arguments have been rehashed on the two posts above. I'm not sure who actively used l-word.com (probably a lot of lesbian users where this was their gateway fandom) but I only really used it for reading a couple of author's interviews and less than 10 fanfics. [livejournal.com profile] frogspace makes a good point about differentiating femslash from lesbian canon, since the fan-circles in Xena, ER, and Bad Girls never called it femslash, per se. *thinks* Hmm...this may mean I have to either (on pinboard):
1. change all of my "(femslash)" tags for "genre:original" to "(lesbian)", or;
2. add "genre:lesbian" to all bookmarks with "genre:original".

This was so much easier when we thought of it as alt fiction during Pink Rabbit's heyday. lol

Edit: This post was apparently mentioned in [personal profile] elf's fanfic.me linkspam and the discussion seems to have migrated to the Fanlore entry.

Just so you know, comments will be brief because I'm on vacation and I actually share this PC with my hosts. Delicious probably won't be updated until I get back to homebase and figure out how to hack Delicious.com for ff4 past the outdated security certificates. If someone has already figured that out, I'd appreciate it if you could drop a comment. :)
Edit (6/6/11): Delicious now updated! Kudos to [personal profile] greenteafarm for figuring out the AVOS beta add-on!

[personal profile] false_maria posted some beautiful Urd/Marller AMG yuri fanart that's worth a mention here and here (NSFW).

[community profile] fem_thoughts is proving to be a fruitful ground for discussing and thinking about particular concepts with its various mini-meta about femslash. Recently [personal profile] snowynight kindly started off a discussion about asexuality and femslash which is quite rare but is worth thinking about.

For the following prompt: "There's a case at a secondary school/University, some series of threats or string of bizarre murders that has the entire campus shaken. In the course of the investigation, Sherlock and John meet two students. One is well liked if not popular, athletic, intelligent without showing off, involved only because they were close to a victim or witnessed something important. The other is a loner with no regard for social norms, an insufferable genius, always in the chem lab, and involved because everyone, including teachers/professors, think they're behind everything."

I spotted this series floating around in Delicious. thoughts... )

The section on Olivia Dunham calls out that trope about female heroines having to be in touch with *feelings*.

These links may be old, but I figure it was nice to rehash the past so that we know what's been discussed, and why.
