The Avengers.

Your favorite book read this year?
I've been reading several ancient travelogues and tales of ancient Asia this year, such as Zhao Rugua's (趙汝适) Zhufan Zhi (諸蕃志), or "Description of the Barbarous Peoples." Zhao Rugua was a customs inspector at the city of Quanzhou during the late Song dynasty (12th-13th centuries). The following translation is seen as one of the best standard English editions of the work:

Your favourite TV show of the year?
Running Man (런닝맨). I have no idea if people write fanfics for them but the show is hillarious and fun.

Your favourite DW community of the year?
fancake is super active.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
A friend of mine introduced me to Castle this year, which I am thankful for, because the writing was amazing for season 3 (I have yet to watch the latest season). I've also been happy to read some of the longer length stories for the Avengers.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
I watch Starcraft II pro tourneys sometimes (see teamliquid). The streaming quality for the Starcraft II 2012 Battle.net World Championship Finals in Shanghai, China, however, was pretty bad. On the other hand, it goes to show how much work the Dreamhack people did behind the scenes to make the event run so smoothly.

Your fictional boyfriend of the year?
I can't say that I've been interested in many male characters this year but recently I've been reading some Steve/Natasha stories, and found shieldandgun for people who are interested in the pairing.

Your fictional girlfriend of the year?
Natasha Romanov. I'd like to read a Natasha/Nikita show down.

Your biggest squee moment of awesome?
This is nothing related to femslash or fandom, but I thought the Bodyform video was pretty epic.

The most missed of your old fandoms?
I'd say that a majority of the referral traffic to my DW journal still comes from the Devil Wears Prada fandom, whether it be a shout out from Tumblr, or the DWP LJ community. I'm not sure if I've gotten over the pairing fatigue, however. *sheepish look*

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
There seems to be an awful lot of femslash recs for the Once Upon A Time genre. I remember watching a few eps in the first season but haven't had the time or wherewithal to watch the rest.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?

OMG. Sorry for posting as Anon. Just too lazy to log into my account ATM if you can believe that. (In all fairness, it's a Saturday and I just got home from a crazy night out. Surprised I can type as well as I am currently!)

Just wanted to encourage you towards Once Upon A Time. I, too, resisted for ages. But when I finally broke last week, I did it for the sake of fic and endless opportunities for femslash. I mean, two moms raising a kid? That's gay.

For Regina/Emma aka Swan Queen, I devoured a ton of fic, most of which I can't remember at the moment. But I recommend Maleficiently's AU, Somewhere, Someone Must Know the Ending - http://archiveofourown.org/works/521505/chapters/921864 (in which Fairy Tale Land exists only in books and Henry's imagination, and it's totally heartbreaking.) The shippers here are pretty prolific and awesome. I like it.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, or really just fresher in my memory, is all the Ruby/Belle aka Red Beauty fic that I've been reading recently. There's woefully little in fandom for these two, but what little there is, is AWESOME. Check out my emphasis in caps. I mean it, and stuff. I would start by reviewing these gifs - http://sleepingwarriors.tumblr.com/tagged/beauty-and-the-beast - which, for me, cemented their OTP status in my head. Ruby (the tall waitress one) is a much better Beast than Rumplestiltskin, IMO. Just my opinion, no big.

Also excellent is Gnomingabout's amazing, amazing, amazing series of Tumblr fics that you can find at - http://gnomingabout.tumblr.com/tagged/fic - they're sort of WIP but so, so good.

And Red Beauty week is coming up!!!!! January 13th. I'm so excited. You should be too. Seriously. You're welcome.

I see those Mulan/Aurora shippers, too. I'm restraining myself from reading those fics right now because I haven't caught up to those characters in the show yet. I'm still in Season 1, and not even at the finale. All that said, get on it!!! It's not the world's most sophisticated TV show, but it's no worse than Glee. (I say that as someone who still watches the show sporadically. Mostly for Santana Lopez. I can't help it, I'm a stan. Augh.) It has a good handful of interesting female characters. I don't know. If you have Netflix, you should definitely give it a shot.

Also because I'm really selfish and would like to reap the benefits of future fic recs in this fandom.

Hi Val, thanks for writing in, reading the journal, and encouraging me to look into the OUAT fandom.

If I get some time I think I will definitely try your recs first to get an indication of what's out there. :) From my own experience, some of the best fanfics that I've seen aren't necessarily from the most sophisticated TV shows.

*chuckles* I know what you mean about Glee; I find that I've been fast forwarding most of the scenes during the last couple of episodes since a lot of it is filler material that I could care less about. ^^; I think I just watch for what happens to Quinn, Rachel, and Santana.
