So...It's been a while. I was asked to share some recs by eneri, so here they are.

Devil Wears Prada, The
Gravity by [archiveofourown.org profile] janewestin (Miranda/Andy)
Andy is working as the managing editor of Cellular Function, a science journal, when Cassidy Priestley's article is submitted to her journal.

Take Me to the River by [archiveofourown.org profile] spacedmuch (Miranda/Andy)
"With her marriage now in ruins, Andy decides to return to New York to get some answers and hopefully a fresh start. However, things don't go entirely according to plan."

I think these publishing what if's are not new but are new to my recs. :)

Game of Thrones
For Fear Tonight Is All by [archiveofourown.org profile] silberias (Oberyn Martell/Ellaria Sand/Sansa Stark)
"Tyrion knew, as he gazed up at the dark skinned Martell man that this was perhaps his only chance to spirit Sansa out of King's Landing and away from his father's greedy fingers. Tywin Lannister would have married the girl himself if he felt he could have gotten away with it, and so Tyrion knew his own marriage was no protection to Ned Stark's daughter whatsoever.'Invite her, demand her, steal her--whatever you choose, Prince Oberyn, choose it soon. Else my lady wife shall break into more pieces than the stars.'"

Such an fascinating fork in the road, and the world building and pacing keeps it interesting.

Star Wars
landscape with a blur of conquerors by [archiveofourown.org profile] diasterisms (Rey/Kylo)
Rey finds her lost family when she finds an ancient Jedi artifact, and regains her place as Chume'da, the heir of a matriarch-led society. Heirs must marry, and marry well.

A novel-length story about finding lost family, arranged marriage tropes and interesting narratives and world building. This was the one work I kept thinking about as I watched the latest installment of the Star Wars movie franchise.

World of Warcraft
Last Resort by [archiveofourown.org profile] sniperct (Jaina Proudmoore/Sylvanas Windrunner)
"The war has not gone well for anyone. The Alliance has three months left before collapse. The Horde is not much better off. With neither victory or death as options, Sylvanas proposes an alternative. A treaty, to ease tensions and open borders, with a political hostage to ensure that both sides stay in line. A marriage with many political implications and Sylvanas would only accept one person. Jaina Proudmoore. And Jaina Proudmoore made for the perfect hostage. If the Alliance moves wrong, Jaina dies. The Horde attacks, and Jaina reduces Orgrimmar to a wisp of a memory in the minds of children. Of course, no one expected Sylvanas and Jaina to be anything more than uneasy partners with each other, least of all Sylvanas and Jaina..."

This was another memorable political marriage trope story that had some interesting tug and pulls.

Avengers
Exclusive by [archiveofourown.org profile] copperbadge (gen)
"Heroes In Manhattan: From Captain America's Hidden Talents To The Truth About The Hulk, We Debunk The Myths And Expose The Daily Lives Of The Avengers."

Interesting take.

I Shall Not Want Honour In Heaven by [personal profile] sam_storyteller (aka [archiveofourown.org profile] copperbadge) (Peggy/Gabe Jones)
"Peggy Carter's life after the war: Howard Stark, Gabriel Jones, SHIELD, and a little boy named Nicholas." (alternative link: AO3)

Saw this work on pinboard's popular fandom bookmarks, and it's well worth the read. I think it comes together a little too neatly and/or easily for certain segments (the secret meetings as a way to move the plot forward are a little lazy) but it has its merits, nonetheless.

Devil Wears Prada, The
When the Night Falls on You by [archiveofourown.org profile] fewthistle (Andy/Miranda AU)
Andy decides to stay with Miranda after Paris.

I'm not quite sure how I missed this one back in 2010 but I'm happy to rectify this error. The build up is relatively slow-paced (compared to other fics) but the interactions feel a little more substantive.

Pacific Rim
Saw this last week, the giant robots were fun (pushed some buttons for me as I'm a big Patlabor / Neon Genesis Evangelion fan), but I wanted to see more of Sasha and Aleksis. The following are some interesting world building fics as well as an exploration into the backstories of some of these minor characters. As with some early fandom writing, there's some confusion about which is the female and which is the male (eg: Blaise in Harry Potter). Sasha is reportedly male and Aleksis/Aleksandra is female on IMDB, but the male actor said on a Youtube that he was Aleksis/Aleksandra, and his wife was Sasha. *shrugs*

those who run with wolves by [archiveofourown.org profile] epistolic (Aleksis/Sasha)
"She’s matched him from the start, blow for blow, move for move, and for the first time since he saw her six months ago he realises that Aleksandra Dmitriyeva is beautiful."

Volchitsa by [archiveofourown.org profile] epistolic (Aleksis/Sasha)
It had not been a marriage for love, but he loves her.

you're my apocalypse by [archiveofourown.org profile] epistolic (Raleigh/Mako)
"The entire world believes they are in love, but this is not true."

[livejournal.com profile] fail_fandomanon: Soon-to-be-implemented changes in lj comments: no more subject line
TL;DR: The Russian PTB, [livejournal.com profile] igrick, at LJ says that they're getting rid of the subject line for LJ comments. There seemed to be some initial panic in English over kinkmemes and Roleplaying journals, which use them fairly heavily. So far, it seems that the changes will be rolled out for S1 styles within the next few months, and there is a chance that S2 styles may not be affected. It appears that the decision for the change was aesthetic and nothing to do with performance or database/administrative reasons. (Sources: 1, 2, 3)

The world-wide release was so much later than the initial international release, so I'm always pleased to see more Detective Dee and more femslashy icons to use! :D

Reading
For those who do not have pinboard, this is what's available if you search for femslash, femmeslash, and f/f. [personal profile] murklins has posted several userscripts (like this one) that has drastically improved the user experience for the site, so if you want to see what people've done to make pinboard shinier, stay tuned to [community profile] pinboard.

I should also give notice that as part of my pinboard updates I've also been changing the URLs for some LJ accounts on my notables list to alternatives if there are some to be found (eg: AO3, DW, personal website). LJ has been a little unstable and that Lancome ad was driving me nuts.

Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles Virtual Season 2 has started posting, with the 1st ep (Fallout) by [livejournal.com profile] inspectorboxer.
Does anyone know what the posting schedule is like? (discover/reread?: virtual season 1)

fuckyeahwomeninarmor (tumblr), run by [personal profile] mswyrr - help submit a pic! :)

Apparently anyone can create a DW account without an invite code until February 28th.

Updates

Anik La Chev has taken down Campus (ST:V uber) and Jungle Fever (Hospital Central uber) in preparation for publication, therefore those links will be taken down from the notables list. :(

Lost Girl
Ways to Tell You I'm Sorry by [livejournal.com profile] heartsways is now complete, updated the links on the main notables page.

Rizzoli & Isles
A Little Cold Series by [livejournal.com profile] snuffnyc is now complete, updated links. eneri has been bugging me to read it. Yes, it was a pretty cute read; it addressed certain imbalances towards the middle and had a bit of a case fic aspect towards the later segments.

e-Readers
pondering buying an e-reader )

Pimping
[community profile] list50--"Multifandom fanfiction recommendation."
"Here, instead of writing well-considered, thorough recommendations for 50 stories over a period of months [which is what [livejournal.com profile] rec50 does], we list 50 stories all in one go. It's much faster, but (unless someone gets to feeling particularly conscientious) the reader gets much less information about a particular story. Of course, depending on the specificity of a list's theme, a reader may not need many particulars. Themes like 'incest fic' or 'threesomes' aren't exactly vague." They've even got an index, and it looks like there's some femslash, but not much! I urge all femslash rec'ers to contribute a 50 fic rec list sometime. :)

The Devil Wears Prada Notables (Master List)

Last updated: 27th April, 2020
Warning: Most of these notables are NOT worksafe!

If you're too young or too closed-minded about some of the things you read here, please feel free to leave. If you've got other rec's that are different from what I've got (but are on par in quality, length, and so on) feel free to leave comments. I usually like longer, angstier works, but I'm always interested in a good read ;)
