Eek. How time flies. I've been a bit distracted; I've been spending my nights lately playing Zeus on Dota 2, watching the VODS for the SCII HOTS MLG Winter Championship, and reading up on the drama that is the Sim City release on reddit. As Zeus says, "To err is human. To respawn, divine!" :DD

Hope everyone else is having a good March so far.

p5’s list of pitch perfect fic that everybody should read by [tumblr.com profile] perpetuallyfive
[personal profile] havocthecat was asking for some Pitch Perfect fic some time ago. I'm enjoying the fics but many don't seem to pass that second read through, and if they do, they're still a WIP. :)

Pretty useful!

James Bond
A Tragedy of Error by [archiveofourown.org profile] coldgreydawn (James Bond/Vesper Lynd)
"Vesper negotiates with life after death."

Interesting fork-in-the-road AU that I came across.

Just so you know, comments will be brief because I'm on vacation and I actually share this PC with my hosts. Delicious probably won't be updated until I get back to homebase and figure out how to hack Delicious.com for ff4 past the outdated security certificates. If someone has already figured that out, I'd appreciate it if you could drop a comment. :)
Edit (6/6/11): Delicious now updated! Kudos to [personal profile] greenteafarm for figuring out the AVOS beta add-on!

Reading
[personal profile] false_maria posted some beautiful Urd/Marller AMG yuri fanart that's worth a mention here and here (NSFW).

[community profile] fem_thoughts is proving to be a fruitful ground for discussing and thinking about particular concepts with its various mini-meta about femslash. Recently [personal profile] snowynight kindly started off a discussion about asexuality and femslash which is quite rare but is worth thinking about.

[personal profile] erinptah: How to write Fic About Issues without it becoming Issuefic
Some good pointers!

Sherlock
Parallel by [archiveofourown.org profile] brbsoulnomming (John/Sherlock, OFC/OFC)
For the following prompt: "There's a case at a secondary school/University, some series of threats or string of bizarre murders that has the entire campus shaken. In the course of the investigation, Sherlock and John meet two students. One is well liked if not popular, athletic, intelligent without showing off, involved only because they were close to a victim or witnessed something important. The other is a loner with no regard for social norms, an insufferable genius, always in the chem lab, and involved because everyone, including teachers/professors, think they're behind everything."

I spotted this series floating around in Delicious. thoughts... )

Which is why you have a lot more non femslash fanfic related links.

Writing
[personal profile] thelastgoodname: The Writer as God. Does "the three axes of approach--god-creator vs. ignorant narrator; random access vs. linear development; detailed outline vs. headlong flings and wrong turns--overlap at all? Does one say something about the other? Does it even make sense to think about these variables?"

Mona Eltahawy: Let me, a Muslim feminist, confuse you (The Star) (kudos to [personal profile] akilanajmah)
"I'm no fool. I know that terrible violations of women's rights are committed in the name of my faith. But Islam belongs to me too. I'm in a boxing ring. On one side is Bill Keller's right wing: bigoted and xenophobic. On the other side is the Muslim right wing, which uses Islam against me to fuel its misogyny."

Femslash Case Study: Bitch Slap
A couple posts back someone in a meta post asked why femslash flourished in some really obscure categories as opposed to others. A perfect case study to ponder upon would be Bitch Slap (2009; trailer); it's a movie that had oodles of maintext femslash but resulted in very little femslash fanfic. more... )

Now, onto what you were originally here for...the recs.

[personal profile] sasha_feather posted the transcript and video of Elif Shafak's TED Talk on fiction vs. identity politics. There's a whole lot being covered in this talk but the highlights are how she talks about fiction as fiction, "writing what you know" as being a suffocating pigeonhole, and how identity politics might be divisive mechanism that doesn't let us get out of our cultural ghettos (assuming we identify with one). Good food for thought and a good speaker in general.
