sasha_feather posted the transcript and video of
Elif Shafak's TED Talk on fiction vs. identity politics. There's a whole lot being covered in this talk but the highlights are how she talks about fiction as fiction, "writing what you know" as being a suffocating pigeonhole, and how identity politics might be divisive mechanism that doesn't let us get out of our cultural ghettos (assuming we identify with one). Good food for thought and a good speaker in general.
