[livejournal.com profile] miggy: Most Talented (Glee, Rachel/Kurt friendship) - the senior year of the "Mostverse" series is well on its way to being another epic piece of work. Senior year has Rachel, Kurt, and the reader dangling on the edge of a precipice--will they make it, or won't they? Rachel and Kurt have both worked really hard to get where they are, but Rachel and Kurt are just a couple of no-name talents among many. Kurt's hit and misses on the networking scene has him wondering whether it's all worth it, while Rachel is still in the dark about how the game is played in this town--she still thinks that she can still make it on talent alone. This story really parallels that essential heartbreaking dilemma depicted in the Devil Wears Prada-verse, and the reader is left hoping that after everything, their friendship might still survive it all. If you don't mind reading WIPs, it's currently being posted in segments on a daily basis while the author works on the backend. It's now complete!

Mirrors Reflecting Mirrors by heinrichfrei (Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame, Wu Zetian/Shangguan Jing'er)
“I only need three things to subordinate it: an iron whip, an iron hammer, and a sharp dagger. I will whip it with the iron whip. If it does not submit, I will hammer its head with the iron hammer. If it still does not submit, I will cut its throat with the dagger.” *flails* Detective Dee femslash! Told through vignettes, this narrative explores the backstories of both Wu Zetian and Shangguan Jing'er's characters. I appreciated the canon inclusion of Wu Zetian executing Shangguan Jinger's family and Wu Zetian's calculated rise to power. However, I wonder if this could have been made deeper. If you read behind the lines, Shangguan Jing'er was originally brought into Wu Zetian's fold in order to hold her hostage, so that Jing'er's family's allies would not retaliate against Wu Zetian as a surety. Keeping your enemies close, so to speak. So how did their relationship dynamic change, from a conqueror sparing the life of a subject? Did Shangguan Jing'er suffer from stockholm syndrome? I would have appreciated a much more in-depth look at that shift.

13 Ways of Looking at a Betrayal by [personal profile] rivkat (Olivia/Peter UST)
"Sometimes the crossing isn't as difficult as the arrival."

I've seen this fic rec'ed a few times on DW already, so I'll try not to repeat what's already been said. I really liked the preciseness in which the author writes Olivia.
