"The Lavender Scare: The Cold War Persecution of Gays and Lesbians in the Federal Government" by David K. Johnson (2004)
This was one of those free e-books I picked up from the U. of Chicago, where a different book is highlighted every month. (note: For PC users, stripping the DRM is recommended as the PC software has a few conflict issues with other PDF files)

Fandom:fancake - I think I asked for post-colonial recs at one point, and boundbooks delivered! :D
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
I think I discovered The Good Wife and Blue Bloods around the same time, and they are both very solid series to base new works from.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Eureka - the stories are getting really stale, and sorry, Felicia Day; while I like your entrepreneurial spirit, that story arc of yours on Eureka sucked.

Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Sean "day[9]" Plott; aka, day9tv (Youtube channel link). He's a professional starcraft II commentator and is usually pretty amusing to watch. Forbes recently named him as one of the 30 under 30 (link to Forbes article). Kudos to my brother who introduced this man and the wonderful starcraft II community to me!

Watching day9 squeal when playing Amnesia: The Dark Descent (link to Youtube playlist) for Halloween.

I've seen a whole boatload of Merlin femslash recs on Pinboard, so if I find myself with some time next year, I might take a look at that.

TV: more Fringe! (that cliffhanger was mean...)
