21 Days of Dreamwidth Meme: Day 1

1. Why did you sign up for Dreamwidth?
It was for very practical reasons, really. I was actually quite reluctant to sign up for DW initially because I already had a backup account over at insanejournal. I also didn't have a clue as to what DW was all about--all I heard on the grapevine was that you needed codes to sign up, and the spiel about TOS transparency; not much about coding improvements.
When I found out I could do
ein_myria,
ein_myria,
ein_myria, etc. without batting an eyelid, and subscribe to interesting things without having to grant access to my inner sanctum, I was sold. I think a bunch of the harry potter communities had begun posting over on insanejournal at the time (for a variety of reasons) and I was sick and tired of handcoding all of the insanejournal user names and community names when I was recommending a whole bunch of them on LJ. When a hobby gets to be more time-consuming and feel more like a chore than a pleasure, you start to wonder whether it's worth it, you know?
Dreamwidth let me continue sharing the stories that I've come to enjoy from a variety of platforms. Otherwise, I'd probably be on IRC today, having given up LJ, sending PM's about the latest steamy novel-length femslash story that I've read, to the 6-7* people who I know are actually interested in fanfic. The only reason I started blogging in the first place was so that I wouldn't have to PM so many times *amused* and so that I could keep track of what I had already recommended in the past (I have terrible memory). I can only hope the readers have enjoyed. :)
*=a Russian, a Swede, a German, a Portuguese, a Belgian, an American, and an Indonesian. (you know who you are! :D)
