Short Fiction
None of your Business by Natalia Klyuchareva (Words Without Borders) (kudos to
yumiyoshi)
"A young boy tries to discipline his alcoholic parents, to shock them into changing their ways. Wallows in the depravity of human nature, yet the story (and the people) carry on."
Came across this story through DW's Latest Things; there's something really interesting about this one.
Recs
Note: Some of these recs won't be appearing on delicious untilthey update their add-on extension for Firefox 4 compatibility. :( (Delicious add-on hack for FF4) LJ stops giving me a 403.
Bitch Slap
Vegetables Are Not Enough by
demoka (Mother Superior/Sister Batrill)
"Vegetables were no longer enough, nor was it prudent to continue using them. Cook had begun carefully stock taking and comparing the receipts of each week's groceries for the convent. It was probably also best to not volunteer for grocery duty too often. Cook might link two and two together. Well, if Cook didn't, Mother Superior certainly would."
*dies* This is pure crackfic gold, I tell you.
Glee
Five Stages by
thememoriesfire
"Santana deals with the coming out process."
Really intriguing storyline that is very cast-centric; fairly good pacing and characterization.
White Picket Fences by
harper_m (warning: BDSM) (kudos to
thelastgoodname)
"Quinn's a masochistic top and Rachel is her sadistic bottom."
The characterization and plot pacing in this are top-notch.
harper_m manages to write a rather intriguing and precarious relationship dynamic; will someone in the pairing push or pull just a little too much and unravel the strings that hold the relationship together?
thelastgoodname is a really lucky recipient!
HP
Amphierotic Bloodlines by Sapphire Smoke (
cuzimastripper) (Bellatrix/Narcissa) (warnings: Lesbian incest, graphic child abuse, dubcon, sex between minors, anorexia nervosa, character death (minor)) (WIP)
"Growing up in the 1960s in a family that expected nothing less than perfection, anything less than such was deemed unfit for a young woman of their status and was punished severely. A house that was classified as 'noble' had dark secrets hidden within those walls, a fear that only the people within experienced. The confusion young girls have growing up was more than intensified in there: it bordered on practically unbearable. This is a story about growing up, about surviving abuse, and about finding salvation and love from anyone you can, even if it’s from the last person on earth you know you should ever hold a deep affection for." Written for NaNoWriMo 2010.
Fascinating and disturbing.
Down to Earth by
kelly_chambliss (Minerva/Rolanda)
"Rolanda has affairs with other women. And Minerva knows it."
This is so, so good...
Five Times Ginny is Really Young, and One Time Tonks Says 'To Hell with It' by
mirellarussian (Ginny/Tonks)
"Ginny is always Charlie's little sister. Or Molly and Arthur's daughter. It takes years for Tonks to realize - she's just Ginny."
This reminded me of Akiko Morishima's May-December manga, Nostalgia (read the panels right to left).
The Hollow Days Series by
wishing_wounds (WIP) (kudos to itzal)
"A series of Pansy/Hermione ficlets centered on the events in their lives after the war."
This is a bit of an older classic series that I had lost in a laptop crash many years ago; I found this through a delicious rec by someone else. *happy* It's got an interesting and meaty build-up.
Warning: Het recs ahead!
Nine Crimes by
brighidg (Draco/Rose, Scorpius/rose, Draco/Asteria)
"Draco and Rose are trapped in someone else's plan for revenge."
Really interesting plot!
Oglaf
There's just not enough awesome in this genre.
geonncannon does surprisingly well in this niche!
Choose Your Weapon by
geonncannon (lesbian mercenary/invincible shield maiden)
The lesbian mercenary didn't expect any of it.
Perseverance by
geonncannon (Princess/Cursed Slut)
The curse continues.
Sherlock
Art: Genderswitched characters - by
sadynax (Sherlock/Holmes)
Spartacus: Blood and Sand
The Unlikeliest of Places by Janine (
fembuck) (Lucretia/Ilithyia)
"'Female gladiators', she thought, shivering with excitement ... 'what an inspired idea'"
Yes, quite inspiring. :)
