Enjoy the reads. :D
Recs
Avengers, The
Adagio by
Lurkz (Pepper/Natasha)
"It was supposed to be just an assignment. Falling for the person she was supposed to protect wasn’t really in the plan. But when do plans ever stay the same?"
I liked it for its solid progression.
At My Back series by
SallyExactly (gen) (kudos to
margrave)
"Strike Team Delta, from beginning to end."
I think this would have to be one of my favorite fics this year; really loved the strong writing--the action and storylines are well put together. I think
margrave was right in that this should be the Black Widow origin story Marvel should be making.
Counterfeit and Counterpart by
Frea_O &
tielan (Maria/Steve)
"Five times Maria Hill doesn’t understand Natasha Romanoff, and why she might be better off that way."
I liked the characterization.
If There Was a Me for You by
false_alexis (Maria/Natasha)
"When Maria is sent to intercept the Black Widow, there are certain things she wasn't expecting- certain very inconvenient things. Now they're stuck trying to distinguish the desirable from the inevitable."
An interesting case fic AU.
On Tilt by
lady_rhian (Pepper/Natasha)
"It all began with a lingerie shoot in Tokyo. A story of double identities, poker, and a long-term relationship with Johnnie Walker. Or, what would have happened if Nat and Pepper had met before the events of Iron Man 2."
I really liked the way this story was constructed; each detail was really carefully thought out to figure out how they would interweave with the original storyline and might add to their interactions, rather than detract. :)
Woman of Edges, A by
tielan (Maria/Steve)
"'I’m beginning to think you’re the most terrifying woman I’ve met.' Learning to like, live with, and love Maria Hill."
From what I've read so far, I think I like
tielan's take on Maria Hill.
Good Wife
Unsettled by
lunchinanelevator (Alicia/Kalinda)
"Post 3x21. Lana's learned some things and leaked to the press, and Kalinda's the center of a scandal of her own …"
I think this is one of the longer fics that explores what could be. :)
Last of Us, The
Life Worth Living series by
Madalynn_Bohemia (Ellie/Joel)
"In a world that is too sick to help itself, Ellie and Joel learn that it is only with each other that they can not only survive, but live."
This read as a natural progression, rather than anything contrived.
Pitch Perfect
Song Beneath The Song by
gilligankane (Beca/Chloe)
"Chloe has always followed the music, because music has given her the best, most important things in her life. It’s never led her astray. Sometimes, though, she wishes it’d give her a little bit of warning about the roller coaster she’s in for."
I really liked how music was interweaved into the story for this fic, given how the genre lends itself to such an interpretation. It's slightly late as this was one of the bookmarks I lost when I had to reformat my laptop a while ago.
Listening to Alice Russell and wishing I could go to one of her US/EU live shows because her vocals are just *awesome*.
